Ranjan Madugalle becomes the first ICC Match referee to officiate 400 ODIs

Sri Lanka’s Ranjan Madugalle has become the first ICC Match referee to officiate 400 ODIs, with today’s 3rd ODI between Sri Lanka and India in Colombo.

With today’s feat, the ICC’s Chief Match Referee has overseen his 400th men’s ODI in a career which commenced 30 years ago.

Madugalle turned into a match referee after having played 63 ODIs for Sri Lanka from 1979-89 and has officiated in all ICC Cricket World Cups from 1996 to 2019 including three finals.

The 65-year-old Madugalle tops the all-time match referee ODI list, followed by England’s Chris Broad,  Kiwi Jeff Crowe, Javagal Srinath of India, Zimbabwe’s Andy Pycroft, fellow Sri Lankan Roshan Mahanama, and Australian David Boon. (Newswire)
