Rauff Hakeem urges voters to reject ‘telephone symbol’

Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) leader and Member of Parliament Rauff Hakeem has stated that the “telephone symbol” is outdated and should not be supported in the upcoming local government elections.

He made this statement during a local government election campaign meeting held in the Ampara district, where he addressed supporters.

“The telephone symbol has long since died; we will not request votes for it,” Hakeem stated during his address.

Hakeem also addressed the SLMC’s relationship with the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB). He indicated a need for serious consideration regarding future cooperation between the two parties.

“This time, we are contesting separately in the local government elections. Even in Kandy, we are contesting separately in 11 councils. Muslim Congress members are contesting in only 3 seats under the SJB, at their own choice and at the request of SJB organizers,” Hakeem explained.
