The 2024 parliamentary election saw a historic milestone with 21 women elected, setting a new record for female representation in Sri Lanka’s parliament.
Previously, the highest number of female parliamentarians was 13. The National People’s Power (NPP) leads with 19 women elected, including Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya, while the remaining two are from Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB).
Additionally, the NPP has included three women in its national list, though the party has yet to officially announce its appointees.
