Sri Lanka Customs has announced that since the government allowed the importing of rice, 167,000 MT of rice has been imported to Sri Lanka.
Customs media spokesman Seevali Arukgoda said that this includes 66,000 MT of Red Raw Rice and 101,000 MT of Parboiled Rice.
The deadline for importing rice has ended with effect from Midnight yesterday (10th Jan). The government initially allowed the private sector to import rice from 4th to 20th December last year, before extending the deadline again to 10th January, through a gazette notification issued on 24th December.
