A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) has been signed to improve health facilities in areas with minimal health services for the benefit of foreign tourists.
The agreement was jointly signed by the Ministry of Tourism, the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) and the Ministry of Health to strengthen the tourism sector in Sri Lanka.
Under this programme, the SLTDA, with the support of the Ministry of Health, has provided financial aid to 04 hospitals with minimal health facilities to establish comfortable paying wards for foreign tourists visiting the country.
The Dambulla, Bandarawela, Pottuvil and Tissamaharama hospitals are to be developed under the said project.
A financial allocation of Rs. 80 million has been made, out of which Rs. 20 million each will be facilitated for the establishment of paying wards at the four hospitals.
Minister of Health Dr. Ramesh Pathirane and Minister of Tourism Harin Fernando participated in the event held yesterday to sign the MOU in this regard. (Newswire)
