The Bribery Commission has arrested former Provincial Councillor and businessman Salochana Gamage, along with another businessman, in the Pitakotte area over a Rs. 9 million bribery case.
The arrests were made while the suspects were allegedly accepting a bribe from another businessman. According to the Bribery Commission, the bribe was solicited on the promise of expediting compensation for a land owned by a relative of the complainant. The land had been acquired by the Urban Development Authority.
Investigations have revealed that the suspects intended to use their influence to facilitate the compensation process. Further inquiries into the matter are ongoing.
