The Sri Lankan Supreme Court ruled that the findings and recommendations issued by a Presidential Commission investigating political victimization (PCoI) against former Solicitor General and ex-Bribery Commission Director General Dilrukshi Dias Wickramasinghe violated her fundamental rights.
The Court declared the Commission’s actions unlawful and nullified its conclusions.
The ruling followed a petition filed by Wickramasinghe, who claimed the Commission exceeded its legal authority in issuing recomendations against her.
The three-judge bench, comprising Justices Priyantha Surasena, Gamini Amarasekera, and Achala Wengappuli, unanimously held that the Commission lacked the jurisdiction to examine the complaint against her.
The Commission, appointed by former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, included former Supreme Court Justice Upali Abeyratne, ex-Appeals Court Judge Chandra Jayatilake, and former IGP Chandra Fernando. Wickramasinghe argued the allegations tarnished her career without legal basis, violating her constitutional rights. (Newswire)
