SC suspension of VFS/IVS Deal: “Big win against Corruption”

Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa hailed the Supreme Court’s decision to suspend the government’s visa outsourcing agreement with GBS Technology Services & IVS Global- FZCO, VFS VF Worldwide Holdings LTD led consortium as a major victory against corruption.

The court issued an interim order suspending the Cabinet’s approval for the outsourcing of online and expatriate visa services to the VFS/IVS consortium, following allegations of a non-transparent, unsolicited bidding process.

Premadasa expressed his gratitude towards several key figures, including Rauff Hakeem, M.A. Sumanthiran, Patali Champika Ranawaka, Harsha de Silva, Ashoka Abeysinghe, and the lawyers from the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) for their relentless efforts in uncovering the alleged scam.

Adding to the criticism of the deal, Harsha de Silva, a prominent member of the SJB and Chairman of the Committee on Public Finance (COPF) in Parliament, underscored that the Court’s suspension suggests serious concerns about the transparency of the deal. He called for the Auditor General to conduct a forensic audit to bring the full truth to light, emphasizing that justice must be served.

The Supreme Court’s decision will be in effect until the final resolution of the petitions challenging the VFS deal. (Newswire)
