SJB to engage with all Opposition Parties including UNP

Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa announced that the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) Working Committee has approved engaging with Opposition parties, including the United National Party (UNP), to form a collective approach for the upcoming local government elections.

Speaking outside the SJB headquarters, Premadasa criticized the government for failing to fulfill key promises, such as reducing electricity tariffs, lowering fuel prices, and providing fertilizer subsidies. He said the gap between the government’s pledges and actions highlights its inability to address the public’s needs.

Premadasa urged the government, which holds a significant mandate, to deliver on its commitments. He assured that if it fails, the Opposition will continue to advocate for the public within a democratic framework.

During the Working Committee meeting, party members also discussed strategies to counter what Premadasa described as the government’s suppression of the public and emphasized the need to prepare for elections.
