A special island-wide traffic operation has been launched from December 23, 2024, on the instructions of the Acting Inspector General of Police to reduce traffic accidents during the festive season.
In a statement, the police reported that during the 24-hour period from 6:00 AM on December 28 to 6:00 AM on December 29, legal action was taken against 8,068 drivers for various traffic offenses.
This includes 401 for drunk driving, 53 for careless and dangerous driving, 48 for speeding, 1,350 for general traffic violations, 865 for license-related offenses, and 5,351 for other offenses.
The Sri Lanka Police has announced that the operation will continue and urges the public to refrain from driving under the influence of alcohol and to adhere to traffic rules. (NewsWire)
