Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya has instructed an immediate internal audit regarding the progress of expenditure allocations within the Sports Ministry. This directive was given during a meeting held yesterday, with heads of institutions operating under the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs.
In her remarks, the Prime Minister emphasized the need to control unnecessary state spending, especially on festivals and events, urging officials to minimize wastage. She noted that while the Ministry has maintained records of state allocations and expenditure, there has been no substantial review of their progress. As a result, she called for a prompt internal audit to assess what has been accomplished with the funds utilized.
Addressing issues of corruption and mismanagement within state institutions, Dr. Amarasuriya clarified that special committees are not being established on an institutional basis. Instead, a systematic plan for the government to address these issues is already in place.
