Unauthorised squatters residing in Kelani Valley Railway Reserve will be relocated under the Colombo Suburban Railway Project, the government said.
A large percentage of the residents in the section from Pagiriwatte Railway Station to Padukka Railway Station have lived under insecure conditions for over 30 years, the government said, with 350 families now identified for relocation.
Accordingly, the Cabinet of Ministers has approved a proposal presented by the Minister of Transport and Highways Bandula Gunawardena to relocate these families.
The families will be relocated and provided housing at the Colombage Mawatha Housing Scheme, owned by the Urban Development Authority, as well as a separate housing complex at Malapalla in Kottawa, being constructed by the Railway Project.
The relocation of unauthorised squatters up to Kirulapona Railway Station, meanwhile, has already been completed, the government said. (Newswire)
