Deputy Foreign Minister Arun Hemachandra held a cordial meeting yesterday with His Excellency Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of Qatar, reaffirming Sri Lanka’s commitment to strengthening ties with the Gulf nation.
The discussion included a brief exchange on the recent incident at Al Udeid Air Base. Minister Hemachandra conveyed Sri Lanka’s concern and expressed hope that stability would soon return. “In moments like this, standing by our friends quietly and respectfully is what matters most,” he said.
The two ministers also reflected on their previous meeting in Colombo earlier this year, which Hemachandra described as a milestone in fostering mutual trust and cooperation.
The Deputy Minister highlighted the vital role Qatar plays in the region, particularly in promoting dialogue and calm. He also thanked the Qatari government for its continued support of the Sri Lankan expatriate community, which numbers over 134,000.
“Sri Lanka remains committed to deepening this partnership—with understanding, sincerity, and a shared belief in peace and progress,” Hemachandra added. (Newswire)
