The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the drafting of the necessary legislation for the enactment of a new constitution for Sri Lankan Cricket to resolve issues faced by the institution.
Approval was granted at the Cabinet meeting in February 2024 to appoint a committee under the Chairmanship of retired Supreme Court Judge K.T. Chithrasiri to draft a new constitution for Sri Lanka Cricket.
The new constitution was to be drafted in compliance with the recommendations of the Cabinet sub-committee appointed under the Chairmanship of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, which studied the matters encountered by Sri Lanka Cricket and submitted its recommendations to the Cabinet of Ministers.
Thereby, a new constitution was drafted by the said Cabinet sub-committee for Sri Lanka Cricket.
Accordingly, the Cabinet has approved the joint proposal presented by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Power and Energy, Labour and Foreign Employment, and Public Security to instruct the Legal Draftsman to prepare a bill to formally approve and implement the new constitution for Sri Lanka Cricket.
