Sri Lanka Plans 24-Hour Passport Issuance Service

Public Security Minister Ananda Wijepala discussed solutions to the ongoing passport issuance crisis, with a key proposal being a 24-hour passport issuance service to speed up processing.

The system would operate in three shifts, utilizing current government officers and retired trained officials to manage demand. Plans also include increasing daily passport issuance capacity, establishing an Immigration and Emigration office in Jaffna, and securing additional staff, Minister said during a discussion with officials.
