Sri Lanka’s largest Religious gathering concludes successfully, say Mahanayake Theros

The special exposition of the Sacred Tooth Relic, known as the ‘Siri Dalada Wandanawa,’ concluded today at the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic (Sri Dalada Maligawa) in Kandy.

The Mahanayake Theros of the Malwatta and Asgiriya Chapters announced the successful completion of the event in a joint statement, describing it as the largest public gathering for a religious occasion in Sri Lanka’s history.

Held for the first time in 16 years, the 10-day exposition drew an estimated two million devotees from across the country. The large turnout led to significant challenges, including overcrowding and long queues.

Despite the difficulties, the event was supported by widespread community efforts. Volunteers and religious organizations provided food, water, and first aid to pilgrims, while local authorities carried out a city-wide cleanliness drive to manage the aftermath of the gatherings.
