Sri Lankan racing prodigy Yevan David secured a landmark victory in Race 2 of the 2025 EuroFormula Open Championship at the Algarve International Circuit in Portimão, Portugal, on Sunday. This triumph marks David’s first win of the season and the inaugural victory for Team Motopark in the current campaign.
One of the title top EFO title contenders this year, Yevan David, has opened his count of victories by winning with authority Race 2 a Portimão, in a sunny morning. By the same token, the Sri Lankan has given Team Motopark its first success of the season.
“We have been working hard and well during the weekend”, commented Yevan, “and it’s nice we could materialise all that in this morning’s race. Competion is much higher this year and it’s going to be an interesting fight at the top. I want to be part of it!”
In the reversed grid for Race 2 (first six of Race 1 reversed), Joss Garfias was in pole, with Stack along him and David, Shin, Pearson and de la Torre behind. Like yesterday, the start turned into a nightmare for Tymek Kucharczyk, who stalled again.
Garfias led in the initial laps ahead of Stack, David, Shin, Pearson, Barrichello and Ryabov, but David soon started charging, stealing second from Stack in lap 3 and taking the lead from Garfias two laps later. Trying to defend his position, the Mexican went wide, being passed by Stack and Shin as well.
With David in full control of events, not much happened until lap 11 when Stack was sent into a spin by Shin. Eventually, David crossed the line first ahead of Shin, yesterday’s winner Pearson and Kucharczyk, who recovered well. They were followed by a trio of South Americans (de la Torre, Barrichello, Garfias) and by Green, Stack and Ryabov to complete the top ten, with Rashid and Brajnik out of the points. (Newswire)
