National Carrier, SriLankan Airlines has been Gazetted Under the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development.
The announcement was made via a Gazette notification, dated 25 November 2025, issued by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake outlining the duties and functions of ministries and institutions under the new government.
The move suggests that it was in line with the government’s decision to abandon plans to sell SriLankan Airlines.
In October this year, it was reported that President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has instructed to abandon plans to sell SriLankan Airlines and to restructure it for a more profitable future.
At the time, SriLankan Airlines Chairperson Sarath Ganegoda said that President Dissanayake had instructed that the airline should be an institution that all Sri Lankans are proud of, and should be owned by Sri Lankans.
The government has thrown out the former regime’s plans to invite bids to partly sell and manage the airline that has been suffering accumulated losses over the years.
