Sri Lanka Railways announced that eight train journeys scheduled for this morning (18) were canceled due to a shortage of locomotive engine drivers, as many are preparing for a promotion exam.
This disruption follows a similar situation yesterday (17), where around 25 train journeys were canceled for the same reason. A senior official confirmed that despite requiring 68 locomotive drivers to operate according to the current schedule, only 48 had reported to work yesterday, with 27 refraining from duty.
The Railway Department warns that delays and cancellations may continue until Sunday, when the promotion exam is scheduled to take place. (NewsWire)
