“Talk to Chairman” new program to address issues of migrant workers

Chairman of the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) Koshala Wickremasinghe has taken measures to introduce a special programme to address the unresolved issues of migrant workers and to combat trafficking.  

The programme announced as ‘Talk to Chairman’ was launched at the SLBFE head office yesterday.

The SLBFE Chairman pointed out that migrant workers face undue pressure when leaving for foreign jobs, while officials and brokers of various ranks have intervened to exploit them for financial benefits.

Koshala Wickremasinghe assured that the new government will work to completely stop these activities.

He further outlined the following measures taken to address issues faced by migrant workers;

The ‘Talk to Chairman’ programme has been introduced via a special counter on the first floor of the SLBFE head office in Denzil Kobbekaduwa Mawatha. All types of accusations, criticisms, and grievances will be recorded here. 
A complaint box has been installed, where solutions will be provided for the complaints received.
Steps have been taken to protect the confidentiality of the complainant.

“Any citizen can submit their complaint. They can submit complaints in various ways. Injustice caused by outsiders or by government officials can be reported. Regardless of any form of injustice, I will work irrespective of rank to provide solutions,” the SLBFE Chairman assured. 

The measures are being implemented to provide a proper system to address the problems of migrant workers and to provide a more favourable service to the people. (Newswire)
