A target drone has been found in the seas off Trincomalee and brought ashore by a group of fishermen.
Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) Media Spokesman Group Captain Eranda Geeganage told Newswire that it was a drone usually used in the training of anti-aircraft crews.
He further said that preliminary investigations have found that it was not a locally manufactured drone and did not belong to Sri Lanka’s Tri-Forces.
Group Captain Eranda Geeganage said it is suspected that it was an internationally manufactured target drone which may have been misplaced during a training exercise and had landed in Sri Lankan waters.
The SLAF Spokesman also confirmed that it did not carry any explosives and that there was no harm or threat to Sri Lanka from the drone.
Group Captain Eranda Geeganage added that investigations are underway into the target drone.
He also noted that a similar drone had been found in 2022 which had drifted from Odissa in India, and such incidents were common. (Newswire/ Image – Dinamina)
