Sri Lanka’s iconic tusker “Bathiya” succumbs to gunshot injuries

Department of Wildlife Conservation officials confirmed that “Bathiya,” a critically injured Sri Lankan tusker, died on July 15 after being found in a muddy pit in Polpithigama. The elephant, suffering from severe gunshot wounds in its right front leg, was one of three elephants receiving treatment.
