Train cancellations continue for 3rd day amid driver shortages

Train service disruptions caused by a shortage of locomotive drivers have continued for the third consecutive day, with 28 journeys canceled today (19).

According to Sri Lanka Railways, today’s cancellations include 16 journeys on the main line, 8 on the coastal line, and 4 on the Puttalam line. However, services on the Kelani Valley line remain unaffected.

The cancellations are due to many drivers preparing for a promotion exam scheduled for Sunday (21). Railway unions have warned that the number of canceled services is expected to increase later today. (NewsWire)
