Two Key appointments made under Ministry of Sports & Youth Affairs

The Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs announced two appointments today (20), with seasoned professionals taking over key leadership roles to drive national initiatives in their respective fields.

Gamini Wickramapala Appointed as Director General of National Youth Corps

Gamini Wickramapala officially assumed duties as the Director General of the National Youth Corps. He received his appointment letter from the Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs, Sunil Kumara Gamage, at the ministry premises.

With over 30 years of experience in the Sri Lanka Administrative Service (SLAS), Wickramapala brings extensive expertise to his new role. He has previously served as the Director General of the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs, the Chairman of the Sugathadasa National Sports Complex Authority, and as the Acting Chairman of the National Youth Services Council.

Deputy Minister of Youth Affairs Eranga Gunasekara and Deputy Minister of Sports Sugath Tillakaratne were also present during the appointment ceremony.

G.N. Ranjith Wimalarathna Appointed as Chairman of Sugathadasa National Sports Complex Authority

Retired Navy officer G.N. Ranjith Wimalarathna was appointed as the new Chairman of the Sugathadasa National Sports Complex Authority. He received his appointment letter from Minister Sunil Kumara Gamage at the same event.

Wimalarathna, a science graduate from the University of Kelaniya, served in the Sri Lanka Navy for 25 years, culminating his career as a Commander. His wealth of experience in administration and leadership is expected to enhance the operations of the iconic Sugathadasa sports facility.
