Mullaitivu Police say two schoolgirls have drowned in a pond at the Kottukinaru Kovil premises this afternoon (June 1).
According to police, the girls had attended a religious ceremony at the kovil and later gone to the pond to take photos. It is believed they slipped and fell into the water.
Both students were rushed to the Mullaitivu Hospital but were pronounced dead on admission.
The deceased were Grade 10 students from the Mamuanei area in Mullaitivu. (Newswire)
