The Sri Lanka Police have introduced two special traffic operations under the “Clean Sri Lanka” initiative to reduce road accidents and ease traffic congestion.
The first operation targets vehicles with unauthorized modifications, including noisy exhaust systems, flashing multi-colored lights, and other illegal alterations that increase accident risks. Authorities will monitor and enforce regulations during the two-week period from January 4 to January 19, giving vehicle owners time to remove unauthorized components.
The second operation involves undercover officers traveling on public transport buses to identify and address traffic violations by drivers.
Both operations are intended to educate drivers and create awareness about traffic laws. Legal action will follow against violators after the pilot phase, with plans for the program to continue long-term.
