UN Rights Chief visits Chemmani mass grave site in Jaffna

UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, visited the Chemmani mass grave site in Jaffna on Wednesday, following the recent discovery of 19 skeletal remains, including three infants. The visit has renewed calls for international forensic involvement and justice over wartime atrocities.

Türk inspected the excavation site and met with lawyers and complainants.

He later joined families of the disappeared at the “Unextinguished Flame” vigil near Chemmani junction, laying flowers in a symbolic tribute. (Newswire)
