The Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Ltd. (Lake House) has given an undertaking to the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka to reinstate journalist Sumudu Jayawardana to her post as Deputy Editor of the Sinhala-language weekly Silumina.
Jayawardana filed a fundamental rights petition after she was transferred to the Lake House Media Academy, alleging the move was unjustified and violated her constitutional rights.
The undertaking was recorded before a bench comprising Justices Yasantha Kodagoda and Sampath Abeykoon, who also directed that progress on the reinstatement be reported to the court by June 5.
The case cited 14 respondents, including the chairman and the board of directors of ANCL. Jayawardana was represented by attorneys Saliya Peiris, PC, Sudarshana Gunawardena, and Sarinda Jayawardena. (Newswire)
