The U.S. Embassy in Colombo has cautioned that foreign nationals who travel to the U.S. on tourist visas with the intent of giving birth to obtain citizenship for their child may be denied future visas.
The Embassy stated that such travelers often rely on U.S. government medical assistance, passing costs onto American taxpayers. U.S. consular officers will deny tourist visas if they believe the primary travel purpose is childbirth for citizenship benefits, which is not permitted under visa regulations.
