Showers are expected in several areas of Sri Lanka today, according to the Department of Meteorology.
Several spells of showers will occur in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-western provinces and Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle and Matara districts.
Showers or thundershowers may occur at several places elsewhere on the island during the evening or night. Fairly heavy showers above 50 mm are likely at some places in Eastern, Uva and Northern provinces.
Meanwhile, showers will occur at several places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Colombo to Matara via Galle. Showers or thundershowers will occur at a few places in the other sea areas around the island, particularly during the afternoon or night.
Winds will be westerly to south-westerly and wind speed will be 30-40 kmph. Wind speed can increase up to 50 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coasts extending from Kankasanthurai to Pottuvil via Mannar, Colombo, Galle and Hambantota.
