Two councillors from the National People’s Power (NPP), who were reported missing earlier today (27), have been found near the Dewata coastline in Galle this evening, police said.
According to the Police Media Division, both councillors were found unharmed. One of them has since reported to the Kananke Police.
The pair went missing ahead of the vote to elect a new Chairman for the Weligama Pradeshiya Sabha, which was scheduled for today. Their sudden disappearance raised tensions, prompting authorities to postpone the inaugural council meeting.
Following the election results, both the NPP and the opposing parties, including the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) and independents, had secured 22 seats each in the Weligama PS. (Newswire)
