“What happened to KDU bus might happen” Ranil warns

Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe called for the election of experienced individuals to Parliament, warning that Sri Lanka risks returning to crisis without seasoned leadership. Speaking in Colombo, Wickremesinghe said the current government lacks members with significant experience, stressing the need for knowledgeable leaders to prevent future turmoil.

“I was in Parliament before, and I believe now we need to create a new team out of our group. These are the only experienced people currently in the country,” he said.

Wickremesinghe noted his team had served for three to four years and played key roles during the country’s recovery from economic distress. He said a lack of veteran members in the new Parliament could pose a risk.

He highlighted Sri Lanka’s rapid recovery from bankruptcy, which he said was unmatched globally. However, he cautioned that stability could be threatened without experienced leadership, drawing a comparison to the recent overturning of a Kotelawala Defence University bus, an accident that claimed the lives of two students.
