Speaking at an event in Nugegoda, Opposition Leader and Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) Leader Sajith Premadasa reaffirmed that the party’s ‘Sakwala’ and ‘Husma’ programmes will continue after the local government elections.
“Some are asking if the ‘Sakwala’ and ‘Husma’ programmes have been stopped. That is not the case. We have temporarily paused them to avoid any complaints that we are engaging in donations targeting elections. Once the local government elections conclude, we will resume these initiatives,” Premadasa stated.
The ‘Husma’ programme provides essential medicines and medical supplies to hospitals, while the ‘Sakwala’ initiative includes the ‘Sakwala’ IT programme, which focuses on equipping schools with smart classroom technology, and the ‘Sakwala’ bus programme. These programmes, aimed at supporting rural schools and medical facilities, have been on hold since November 2024. (NewsWire)
