Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) member Bandulal Bandarigoda will likely be appointed to fill the parliamentary seat vacated following the suspension of Manusha Nanayakkara’s party membership.
Bandarigoda, who secured 34,897 votes and the third place in the Galle District in the 2020 General Election, is next in line on SJB’s preferential vote list.
SJB General Secretary Ranjith Madduma Bandara meanwhile said that the party is yet to decide on a member to fill the seat left vacant by Harin Fernando.
Harin Fernando and Manusha Nanayakkara were both disqualified from holding parliamentary seats, with a Supreme Court ruling in favour of the SJB’s expulsion of the duo.
Manusha Nanayakkara is a Galle district MP who contested from the SJP while Harin Fernando entered Parliament as a National List MP from the SJB.
Accordingly, the SJB will get an opportunity to name a person to fill the parliamentary seat vacated by Fernando. (Newswire)
