The National Freedom Front (NFF) led by former MP Wimal Weerawansa has handed over a letter to the United Nations office in Colombo, urging urgent intervention to prevent the escalating Israel-Iran conflict from triggering a third world war.
The letter, addressed to UN Secretary-General António Guterres, highlights growing instability caused by the conflict and criticizes the role of the United States in exacerbating tensions. It accuses the US of unjustified military action against Iran and warns of a wider global crisis if immediate diplomatic efforts are not undertaken.
NFF National Organizer Jayanthe Samaraweera, along with party representatives, delivered the detailed letter, which calls on the UN to take decisive steps to end what the NFF describes as a looming human tragedy. (Newswire)

The Honorable Secretary-General
United Nations Organization,
United Nations Secretariat,
New York, United States of America.
Through:
The Honorable Permanent Representative
United Nations Office in Colombo.
H E the Secretary-General,
*urgently and systematically calls for intervention to prevent the Iran-Israel war from escalating into a Third World War*
The conflict has now been going on for more than two weeks, with the Israeli attack on Iran, which occurred within a day of the United States, Israel and Iran concluding negotiations to suspend Iran’s uranium enrichment program within a 60-day time frame. The United States is now also intervening in attacks on Iran, and Iran is being pushed to the point of retaliatory attacks.
The US is unnecessarily attacking Iran in this way, in a context where, in March, US Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard testified before a US Senate Intelligence Committee and emphasized that the US intelligence community confirms that Iran is not building a nuclear weapon and that Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei did not authorize the nuclear weapons program that he suspended in 2003.
The facts indicated above confirm that the US has been preparing plans for the use of its military arm against Iran for a long time.
In 2003, the US prepared to attack and destroy Iraq on the pretext that Iraq had anti-human chemical weapons. We believe that Your Excellency can also recall that before attacking Iraq, international organizations were used to confirm that Iraq did not have chemical weapons.
Similarly, the argument we are building is that the US confirmed during the 60 days of discussions between Israel, Iran and USA that Iran did not have enough enriched uranium to build nuclear weapons before attacking Iran.
We do not believe that Your Excellency, as the Secretary-General of the United Nations, have no appreciation for the priority given by the US to anti-human activities such as the attacks on civilians living in the Gaza Strip, including women and children, the provision of weapons and military facilities to Ukraine during the Ukrainian-Russian war, and the imposition of severe sanctions on countries such as Cuba.
Given the current state of affairs, we strongly emphasize that it is your irreplaceable responsibility to urgently prevent the Iran-Israel-US war from escalating into World War III.
Moreover, many world leaders have already issued statements belittling the conduct of the United Nations in the past. We regret to inform you that your leadership personality has been belittled since those leaders’ statements were issued during your tenure as the head of the United Nations.
Let us take this opportunity to point out that the world strongly believes that the United States is behind the war tensions that Israel has created in the Middle East region. We believe that Your Excellency and We can see that the world is now asking whether the United Nations is an international organization that behaves according to the United States, as the United Nations has not intervened to prevent such conflicts.
The birth of the United Nations is based on providing peace and security to the entire world in order to ensure the existence of the world’s human. But we believe that Your Excellency have also observed that the suspicion that the United Nations has become a cat paw of American imperialism has spread throughout the world.
Accordingly, we urge Your Excellency to immediately break away from the cold-blooded attitude that the United Nations has adopted towards the Israel-America-Iran war and intervene immediately with a solid program to end this conflict that is destined to end in a human tragedy.
Thank you,
Yours faithfully,
Wimal Weerawansa (Former Member of Parliament)
Leader,
National Freedom Front,
Sri Lanka
