A 21-year-old youth from Kurunduwatta, Hapugala, who fell into the sea from the Galle Fort seawall around 7.40 p.m. on April 26, has died while receiving treatment at the Colombo South Teaching Hospital in Kalubowila.
According to reports, the youth had fallen into the sea at a location commonly used by trained individuals for extreme sports activities involving jumps from the Galle Fort seawall into the ocean. He sustained severe injuries after hitting the rocks and was rushed to hospital by police officers using a cab.
Investigations have revealed that the young man had visited the location with his father for leisure purposes. However, at the time of the incident, his father was reportedly not nearby.
