The Cabinet has approved a proposal to streamline data systems in public institutions to improve efficiency and service quality.
Recognizing the need to integrate IT systems in public institutions to improve efficiency, reduce data duplication, and enhance service quality, the proposal has been tabled by the President.
Accordingly, the proposal outlining guidelines for the enhancement of the efficiency of data input for information technology systems regulated/developed by public institutions has received a Cabinet nod.
The key measures include:
Compulsory use of the National Identity Card number for identifying Sri Lankan citizens over 15.
Compulsory use of the passport number for identifying foreigners.
Compulsory use of the business registration number and National Identity Card numbers of owners or board members, along with passport numbers for foreign board members.
Standardizing data to enable formal data transfer between government institutions. (Newswire)
